The History of Kaito Gakko
Kaito Gakko means school of schools, best of east and west. The name Dr. Kaito was given to Uncle David Nu'uhiwa by martial arts masters throughout the world. Uncle Dave crafted his fighting system from a long life of training and fighting. It combines elements of Karate, Danzan Ryu Jujitsu (as developed by Master Henry S. Okazaki, whom Uncle Dave studied under), Hawaiian Lua, and various other fighting systems.
As Uncle's senior student, Professor Carlos Gallegos continues a legacy and tradition as few others can. Carlos has taught at private dojos, high schools, colleges, senior centers, private sessions, clinics, and special events. He has also been an instructor in government training courses, including self-defense training for airline employees through the Department of Homeland Security.
Carlos spent many years under the tutelage of his teacher, friend, and mentor, Uncle Dave. Through their long teacher-student relationship, Dave taught Carlos the Martial Arts style that Dave had perfected. Through their long friendship, Dave and Carlos shared life's ups and downs. Professor Gallegos started teaching Martial Arts in the 1960s, and has taught at SCE in Orange County since 1974.
Ultimately, Kaito Gakko represents a complete self-defense system as effective on the street as it is on the mat. Uncle Dave passed away in 2005, but he is still with us on the mat; smiling upon us and making sure we stay in line.
